I am starting a new post as the other was getting a bit long.
Photos from Antena 1 have come in of Paul da Serra extending to Calheta and Prazeres.
Very sad to see this photos, but we know the green will all be back in time.

Hi Tobi,
ReplyDeleteThese images are devastating:( I hope things get under control asap and everyone is safe. Can i please ask your advice on my upcoming trip to Madeira...I am due to fly out Thurs 18th and stay in Dorisol Estrelicia, would this be safe? I have never been to Madeira so I'm not sure about the locations. Thank you so much for your very informative blog and I'm praying for Madeira x
Dear Tobi,
ReplyDeleteI stayed at Dorisol Estr. before. this location was not affected. The weather is changing now and the risk for more fires will be minimal. You will still like the wonderful island. Go and spend money that madeira will need now more than ever. They will tend to tourists as well as ever. My friend opened their tourist shop in the center again today already.
Take a cab from the airport and have it drive all the way up. The last metres to the hotel are soooo steep.

Dear Pauline i meant
DeleteHope to hear more here soon.
ReplyDeleteWe are also in Caniço de baixo and we can see more smoke forming up in the hills.
We can't read portugese, but by trying it seems like fire is also near Sao goncalo.
Dear Ronald Try using google chrome translate. dnoticas madeira will automatic translate as well.
ReplyDeletefor all who booked and still have to go: you will be amazed by the resilience of the Madeiran people. You will find the island up and running in no time. Of course there will be plenty of scars to be seen but the island is still a beauty and worth your visit. On top of that, Madeira beeds your custom more than ever now.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Peter. Madeira carries on offering a lovely holiday still. I have been here 10 days now and apart from a Smokey atmosphere on Tuesday and Wednesday with ash on our clothes and in our hair nothing that soap and water can't clean up we are still enjoying our holiday. Of course our hearts go out to the lovely people who have lost their homes and businesses. We are tremendously grateful to the firefighters whom have been on the go since Monday. Don't give up on Madeira.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteFor those currently staying in Madeira. What's the situation like today and how many restaurants/tourist attractions are open? I'm supposed to be flying there on Monday but am worried that my holiday may be affected by the amount of places being shut down, and also the moral being low. I'd love to go but also want to make sure it's safe.
Thanks,
Jenny
We're on holiday at the moment near Funchal. The people here are lovely and smiley and everything is open. Other guests here have been on the cable cars today. I'm afraid you will see signs of the fire but there is lots untouched. It's gorgeous!
