The Dock House

Seixal is one of my favourite locations found on the north coast of the island, and if you have visited, then you are sure to recognise the property below.
The Dock House is a 19th century building which was served as a warehouse for wine casks, which were then transported by sea, in a time when paths between settlements were made by foot.

The building has been fully restored and is available for rent as a holiday let.

Repsol Danger

A driver for Repsol has been caught on camera driving dangerously through the last tunnel that connects Seixal to Sao Vicente.
Could well be a job going soon...........

Another Red Alert.

Another red alert has been issued for the North of Madeira and Porto Santo. The red notice will run from Friday 6pm - Saturday 6am for high waves. The waves are expected to be between 12-14 metres, and precautions are all ready in place to close some coastal roads.

Festa dos Compadres

Santana celebrates the opening of Carnival season on the 2nd & 3rd February with the
Festa dos Compadres.
The quiet town of Santana becomes alive with colour as people make and dress straw dummies of men , women and children and leaving them all about the town.
The tradition goes back more than 50 years, and is known for its originality, marked by these gigantic figures who roam and take part in a parade bring much joy to this area on the north coast of Madeira.
It is one festival I have not yet been to but hope to see some of it this year.

The main Parade is Sunday 3rd at 15.00

Storm 4th-5th November 2012

More bad weather hit Madeira last night, with the North Coast being hit the hardest.
Ribeira da Janela and Seixal were hit bad with landslides and roads blocked. Some properties have been damaged but no life was lost.
Madeira has had an unusual amount of heavy rain over the last couple of weeks, following almost 18 months of dry weather, so the ground is very dry, and the rain cant soak in as quick as it usually would.

I have collected a selection of photos from the internet and put them together in a set.
