Fires in the Monte and São Roque became intense during the night with new fires breaking out. The situation got worse during the night which also lead to a power cut for many areas cause by one of the fires.
The hospital at Monte (Marmeleiros) was evacuated during the night as smoke inhalation became a concern for patients. The staff were praised for the quick evacuation of around 150 patients, those in serious need were taken to the Hospital in Funchal.
Unconfirmed reports say some homes have suffered damage and explosions during the night of gas bottles could be heard plus the thunderous sound of barking dogs echoing around the areas.
Things seen a little more calmer this morning, fires are still burning but more controlled, and patients have returned to the hospital at Monte.
