Black Friday

 This being a "Black Friday" at Madeira Airport. A few minutes ago the easyJet flight from Lisbon made an attempt and failed landing. The aircraft already follows return to the Portuguese capital.

In the accounts of this windy day at the airport influence zone, and when there are still four flights scheduled to arrive in Madeira until early in the morning, already have up 19 canceled flights (arrivals and departures) and 'only' 16 completed operations.Of canceled flights, three easyJet flights from the United Kingdom and came to take off in the direction of Funchal. Among others, most aircraft reached approaching the runway in an attempt to land, but eventually aborted.

Of the seven aircraft today managed to land on the island, the first was at 5:46 a.m. (Air Berlin) and the last aircraft of AeroVip (18h41) to enable connection to Porto Santo.

The critical period began drawing up from 9 in the morning. From then until now, beyond AeroVip the plane only other three aircraft landed in Madeira.

Well today has all been about the weather today.

Its been cold with rain on and off, most places have seen hail stones, with Porto Santo being the best as the beach was covered in hail.

First winter snow

The first snow of the winter fell last night over the high ground temperatures fell below freezing and today roads to the peaks will stay closed because of the snow cover.

Later in the early evening, Paul da Serra was covered in a large amount of tiny hail, painting the area white.

Weather Update

Have been out and about today the weather is not to bad, on Pico do Areeiro the wind was really picking up and the temp was showing 3 degrees, to the north it was just cloud, the south has stayed mainly sunny and warm all day. The wind was picking up in Caniçal and also Funchal, but Caniço and Garajau were very calm, and it still is very calm in Caniço.

The wind elsewhere is strong and gusts of 117kmph have been recorded on Pico do Areeiro, and 116kmph in Caniçal. A tree in Santo Antonio has fallen onto a house causing damage to the roof and blocking a road, and in the Nuns Valley there have also been fallen trees with the road blocked for a time.

The airport of Madeira has had 2 flights from Lisbon return back to Lisbon after strong gusts meant the planes had difficulty to land.

Waves in the North are still expected to reach maximum heights of 12-14 meters, and if any photos come in I will post them here, and keep this tread updated with any other news.

The night seemed to be calm, the wind was strong and brought down a few trees but the waves seem to have not materialised, another sunny day in the south although it is forecast for some rain and more cloud in the north.

In Lisbon a hail storm has covered an area with hail stones causing a few problems but clearing nice for the locals to see.
