Temperatures in Funchal hit 37.8 degrees today, the hottest recorded temperature for 40 years, where on 10th August 1976 a high of 38.5 was recorded in Quinta Grande.
As the heatwave continues with the whole island now on orange alert, and the Institute of Nature Conservation and Forestry remind people that fires and camp fires are prohibited between April 1st - October 31st, this comes as two nationals from Germany were caught lighting a fire in Fajã da Nogeira in Faial.
