The Judicial Police today seized a sailboat and stopped its two crew members for carrying about 120 kilograms of cocaine, said the coordinator in Madeira, Eduardo Nunes.
"I confirm the seizure of the ship and the arrest of its only two crew members in the marina of Calheta by suspicion of drug trafficking, "he said. The police do not have the exact amount of cocaine seized, but assured there is about 120 kilos.
Eduardo Nunes admitted that the ship was already referenced and sailing with the UK flag, and believed to have sailed from the Canary Islands
The vessel called "Calma" arrived in Calheta Marina this afternoon and was the target for a search.
The nationality of the crew was also not revealed "but are not Portuguese," he said.
