It seems the Government of Madeira this evening announced that they will name the airport Cristiano Ronaldo in his honour.
The announcement was made this evening while Ronaldo officially opened his first hotel CR7 along with Pestana group.

For goodness sake.. What happens when he's in his bathchair. Why not name it the Pestana Airport - Mr. Pestana has done more for Madeira and Portugal than Ronaldo. Or Bkandys Airport.. They celebrated 200 years of production of Blandy's Madeira Wine in 2011 and are the world leaders with a huge reputation and many more Gold Medals. Let the airport name remain: Madeira International Airport.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, why they naming after him is beyond me. The Airports formal name is Santa Catarina Airport.
ReplyDeleteAs for naming one of the Islands main street is a bit like renaming The Mall - Bobby Charlton Way
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely ridiculous. Fir goodness sake, it's not as if he is deserving of such an honour - he is nothing more than a good football player. Not as if he has found a cure for cancer or the answer to world peace. He is just a footballer who was lucky enough to be born when footballers earn such ridiculous amounts of money. He has no other talent than being able to kick a football and certainly no talent that has made any significant difference to the world with regards health, welfare etc. Really is bizarre that people get in such a frenzy about him and treat him like some kind of figure to worship. Surely the museum, horrible bulging shorts statue and now the hotel is enough of a tribute. The government in Madeira really do need a massive kick up the ass.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree Emily.....
