Military aircraft tracked a flight from Madeira to Birmingham when contact was lost. The Monarch airline lost contact with the control tower, passengers were not told of any problem, but a state of panic on the aircraft came about when passengers saw the military plane flying so close. The plane landed safely and Monarch airlines confirmed contact was lost for a short period of time and measures were taken for the flight to carry-on safely.
