Wet day ahead.

There is a weather alert out for Sunday. Heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms for the whole day. The alert is in place from 1am Sunday through to 7am Monday.

UPDATE

Madeira has now been placed on red alert in the mountain regions between 6am and noon tomorrow (Sunday) the rest of the island is on orange alert due to expected heavy rain. Winds will also be strong, as to the ocean waves especially on the north coast.

UPDATE SUNDAY

Well it has certainly turned out to be a wet day 
The rain hasn't stopped from when it started yesterday evening and continuous thunder and lighting. 

2 planes at the airport have been diverted easy jet from Lisbon returned to Lisbon and transavia from Lyon to Porto then on to Madeira,  returned back to Porto.
