Beautiful Pest / Uma Linda Peste

This is the Bettle that is destroying our palm trees.

The pest Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) commonly known in the Algarve by Scarab-of-palm, (about 4 cm in length) is of tropical origin (Asia and Oceania) but, from North Africa, reached Spain in 1995 and later spread throughout southern Europe. In the Algarve it was detected in 2007, but mainly because of import and lack of effective countermeasures, spread over almost the entire country, including Madeira.
Recently, a Spanish laboratory discovered that a fungus can be "planted" in palm trees and has the ability to "eat" these beetles, and thus a natural and effective biological weapon. As is normal in this world that will enrich a few at the expense of the misery of others.
