Só Espeto Gaula

Só Espeto  Restuarant in Funchal, closed its doors on Monday 9th March. The restaurant had been open for 10 years and served the traditional Espetada (beef on skewers) as well as suckling pig, roast Bacalhau and chicken on the spit.

Manuel Henriques owner of the restaurant, is now on the move from Funchal, and has a large property in Gaula. The large Villa, a familiar site to many as it is right at the exit to Madeira Cash, and has been empty for many many years. Construction work has been going on for 6 months now, and the new site for Só Espeto is almost ready to be opened.
Saturday 28th March will be the Inauguração of the new restaurant, and will be Alberto João Jardim's last opening, with him standing down and elections taking place on Sunday.

Só Espeto will have 3 Private Function rooms, Large main restaurant, large bar area, swimming pool with bar, and a Library/Cigar Cognac room. 

I have an album of photos on Flickr of how the building was just as work began to start, surprisingly the stained glass windows were all still in perfect condition as to was the library, which is amazing as the property has been vandalised and used by addicts over the years it has been closed up.

I will post more photos of the Inauguração after Saturday. My partner Nelio will be the manager, and will be happy to meet you and welcome you to this new eating experience.

    Looks like a smart place. Hope the new location does well. Gaula needs some new restaurants and Funchal has far too many, so a good move. 😉

    Excited to hear of a new and looks great restaurant within walking distance of our house (we live near to Bar Foca)
    Please tell Nelio we will certainly be visiting in May when we are next over (celebrating a significant birthday !!!)

    Really excited about the news of a new restaurant within walking distance of our house in Madeira (We have a house near to Bar Foca.
    Tell Nelio we will certainly be visiting in May when I have a significant birthday to celebrate!!!!!!
