The Portuguese environment agency yesterday presented maps for Portugal the identify 54 critical flood areas.
22 of the areas are in the Continent (mainland Portugal) 5 areas in the Azores, and 27 areas in Madeira.
Plans need to be put into place for risk management, with the view of protecting persons and property by the end of the year.

Shame the original newspaper article seemed to concentrate on the areas within the continent that are at risk. Having named each area there, they failed to mention one of the 27 exact locations on Madeira! Some are obvious perhaps, but it would have been of much more interest to those living in Madeira to see a list of what might possibly affect them. Scary photo showing the ferocity of the water during these floods and when you see the same places when all is calm and tranquil, it is so hard to imagine how it must feel when surrounded by such a situation.
ReplyDeleteYes Emily not good they didn't mention anywhere in Madeira. There is a link to a map at bottom of articlE but don't really understand it.
