Radar Activation

The Radar at Pico do Areeiro will be Activated tomorrow 9th May.

The Estação Radar No.4 (ER4)  situated 1813 metres above sea level will start broadcasting its first signals tomorrow for the CRC (Control and Reporting Centre)

The ER4 will operate 24 hours a day throughout the year and allows the expand and scope of national defence area as well as the monitoring and control of Space Strategic National Interest.

The station will also allow increased efficiency and safety  in compliance with other public interest missions, including missions to alert search and rescue, surveillance of fishing activities and illicit acts. also will help improve air traffic safety in the region,  and at the same time protecting the environment.

    Protecting the environment? How's it do that then? 'Cos it's ruined the environment up there.

    Not sure either how it protects the environment, but I guess if it looks out for illegal fishing that would be one way.... BUT the news today is that it isn't working...lol due to technical problems, so when it will send its first signal is anyone's guess, Maybe another white elephant.
